7/22/2008 A Stroke of Fate: New Assets

We have published some of the new features from Akella's "A Stroke of Fate" adventure game. They include a few new images of Germany from the 1940's decade and can now be seen in the gallery of the project.

One of the new images is a historical scene from 1945. The hero, SS-Standartenführer Mayer inspects the goods that are delivered from Nuremberg. The main character of the game stands in front of the famous "furerbunker" depicting a historical event which took place during the last days of Adolf Hitler.

bunker

There were actually two bunkers that were connected together: the older Vorbunker and the newer Führerbunker. The Führerbunker was located about 8.2 meters beneath the garden of the old Reich Chancellery building at Wilhelmstraße 77, approximately 120 meters north of the new Chancellery building, which had the address Voßstraße 6.

On the Führerbunkers upper level there was a dining hall, a guest room, a kitchen and other rooms. At the lower level there were 17 rooms, including the living rooms of Adolph Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, Martin Bormann, and doctor Ludwig Stumpfegger.

Also located in the lower level were bathrooms, bedrooms, a telephone switchboard, a guard room, a reception room and office facilities. Four emergency exits led to the Reich Chancellery Garden.

In another scene, one of the rooms in the bunker, the one that served as  Hitler's reception room is shown. In the foreground you can see the personal table of the aide-de-camp of the Fuhrer, sturmbannführer SS Otto Gyunshe. Behind the armoured door (where Mayer is standing) are living rooms and two adjacent bedrooms which belong to Eva Braun and Hitler himself.

The bunker's layout was painstakingly recreated by the the game developers according to the schemes and plans that have been preserved from that time. Here is the bunker plan from Wikipedia:
