What can we do to create a world that would feel like ancient Greece?
This was the main question we tried to answer when creating Numen’s landscapes.
Greece consists of both the northern mainland and a large number of
small to large islands. All together, there are about 3000 of them. The
islands are spread out over a very large area of the Mediterranean sea,
making them very diverse. This makes them a great game environment.
There are lakes and swamps to the West, the North is covered with dense
forests, and the East and South offer the archetypal Greek fauna and
flora. All of the islands have steep hills, rocks, ravines, and
beautiful beaches (that we filled with those little annoying crabs :).
These are the exotic places we hope will make the players believe they
are navigating through ancient Greece, and give them a visual of what
ancient Greece may have actually been like.
But sill, we wanted more. We felt that having the players explore just
those areas would not be enough to keep their interest for very long.
That’s why we allowed for them to explore the northern part of the Dark
Continent – Africa. All of those rolling dunes of sand scattered with
the bones of giant animals, savage warriors, and lost caravans will
prove to be a completely different experience to the gamer.
The same can be said for the high mountaintops. There, close to the
Gods, where it never ceases to snow, and only the howling of the wolves
and distant horns can be heard, the brave ones go to pay homage to the
their dead in cold caves and tombs.
There are many movies and books that have formed our vision of this
world – the unforgettable Clash of the Titans that we watched when we
were kids, not to mention Jason and the Argonauts, and everything about
The Iliad and the Odyssey.
We believe that those who like this era will find Numen to be a good investment of their time.
